Format: Blu-ray Blu-ray Editorial Review

**** The Japanese Blu-ray edition of *Princess Mononoke*, part of the revered Studio Ghibli collection, has garnered a passionate reception from fans of the film and Miyazaki's work. It serves as a significant upgrade from previous releases, particularly the US version which disappointed some with "dubtitles"—subtitles that reflect the English dub rather than the original Japanese dialogue. For those seeking authenticity, the Japanese version offers a much-cherished subtitle translation, akin to what was included in the original US DVD release, ensuring viewers can fully appreciate the nuanced dialogue and cultural context intended by the filmmakers. The inclusion of a variety of language tracks, including an excellent English dub, adds to the disc's versatility, making it accessible to a broader audience. Visually, the film shines in its Blu-ray format, with stunning animation rendered in 1080p that highlights the meticulous detail Studio Ghibli is known for. The audio experience is equally commendable; the DTS-HD MA soundtrack provides a rich auditory experience, essential for fully immersing oneself in the film's legendary score and vibrant soundscapes. While the case design is straightforward, the sturdy digipak packaging adds a level of durability to the product. However, there are some drawbacks. The Blu-ray menu is entirely in Japanese, which may pose a challenge for non-Japanese speakers, although navigation using the remote is still manageable. Additionally, the special features are rather sparse, Consisting mainly of trailers and a brief documentary, which may disappoint fans looking for more substantial extras. Despite these minor issues, the overwhelming joy from experiencing *Princess Mononoke* in its best possible format makes this Blu-ray a worthy addition to any collector's library. It appears to fulfill the high expectations of ardent fans while inviting new viewers to explore Miyazaki's masterpiece. **
